Former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is keeping his head held high despite facing major legal hurdles, standing firm on his innocence after the Sandiganbayan Third Division ruled to transfer his custody from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Refusing to back down, the former leader emphasized that the shift in detention location does not affect his determination to fight the legal battle ahead.
“I respect the decision of the Sandiganbayan,” Romualdez said.
Before the order, Romualdez received care across multiple facilities. In his statement, he took a moment to express appreciation for the medical personnel who oversaw his health during the legal proceedings, noting, “I will continue to follow the medical advice of my doctors.”
The Leyte representative made it clear that a change of venue won’t change his stance or his commitment to go through the legal process head-on.
“I have always said that I will face the charges against me and answer them before the proper court. That has not changed,” he declared. “I maintain my innocence. Haharapin ko ang kaso. Sasagutin ko ang mga paratang.”
Acknowledging the heavy weight of the ordeal on his personal life, Romualdez closed with a message of resilience, emphasizing that he intends to tackle the coming court battles with composure.
“This is a difficult moment for me and my family. But I will face the days ahead with dignity, with faith in God and with confidence in the truth,” Romualdez added.
