The House of Representatives has affirmed the Development Budget Coordination Committee’s economic framework for the proposed P7.2-trillion 2027 national budget, pledging to collaborate with the Executive branch on a spending plan geared toward the needs of Filipino families.
House Committee on Appropriations Chair Rep. Mika Suansing emphasized that coordination between Congress and the Executive will be vital in translating the administration’s budget priorities, anchored on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s theme, “People-Centered Growth for an Inclusive and Resilient Future,” into tangible improvements in public services.
Quoting the President’s Budget Message, Suansing noted that the proposal “reflects our unwavering commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous nation.”
“More than a financial plan, it is a strategic investment in the Filipino people and in our country’s future. It translates our priorities into concrete action, ensuring that every public resource contributes to stronger institutions, greater economic opportunities and a better quality of life for every Filipino,” Suansing quoted the President as saying.
As lawmakers open deliberations on the government’s fiscal plan, Suansing reinforced the chamber’s alignment with the executive team’s goals.
“We affirm the framework laid out by the DBCC in crafting the 2027 National Budget. In this budget, that means prioritizing investments in quality education, healthcare and workforce upskilling,” Suansing said.
She stressed that success hinges on whether appropriations yield direct benefits for citizens.
Addressing Executive branch officials participating in the budget hearings, Suansing reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to shared goals.
“To our partners in the Executive branch, we look forward to working with you in crafting a budget that will be truly responsive to our people’s needs and will unlock our country’s full potential,” she said.
She further urged her colleagues to sustain the transparency and accountability measures introduced during the previous fiscal year’s deliberations.
“To our colleagues in the House, it was our collective efforts last year that enabled us to successfully implement critical reforms that reshaped long-standing, decades-long practices,” Suansing said. “This year, I look forward to further strengthening our collective efforts in safeguarding the Filipino people’s faith in the budget process and in securing our country’s economic future for generations to come.”
The House officially initiated its budget scrutiny with the initial DBCC briefing on Monday to review the administration’s macroeconomic assumptions and fiscal targets.
