DOE Fast-Track Push Delivers 1.5 GW in New Power Capacity

The Department of Energy reported that 40 energy projects were completed in 2026 under Task Force 200, adding 1.5 gigawatts of new power generation capacity to the country’s grid.

The DOE said the completed projects mark significant progress for Task Force 200, an initiative created to fast-track 200 power projects identified by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for implementation over the next three years.

The task force seeks to accelerate project completion by addressing bottlenecks, streamlining regulatory requirements, and improving coordination among government agencies and private developers.

According to the DOE, the completed projects include nine battery energy storage system facilities with a combined capacity of 169.7 megawatts. The agency said the BESS projects will help improve grid reliability and support the integration of renewable energy into the power system.

The DOE also said 14 additional projects with a combined capacity of 371.8 megawatts are now in the advanced stages of testing and commissioning. These projects are expected to begin commercial operations once they complete the remaining technical and regulatory requirements.

Energy Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan said the department continues to closely monitor each project to ensure that implementation remains on schedule and that possible causes of delay are promptly addressed.

Among the major projects under active monitoring are the Bugallon and Terra Solar power facilities, which are expected to generate 530 megawatts and up to 750 megawatts, respectively. Both projects are currently undergoing commissioning and testing in coordination with the system operator.

“The steady progress of Task Force 200 demonstrates what can be achieved through strong coordination between government and the private sector,” Marasigan said. “Every project that reaches commercial operation strengthens our energy security, improves the reliability of our power system, and helps ensure that sufficient electricity is available to support economic growth and meet the needs of Filipino consumers.”

The DOE said it will continue working with project proponents, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders to accelerate the completion of the remaining projects under Task Force 200 as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s long-term energy security.
