The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) activated its Emergency Operations Center and deployed traffic personnel along EDSA on Monday as authorities monitored a mass gathering in Quezon City.

In a statement, the MMDA said it is closely watching traffic conditions along EDSA and other affected areas, with the EOC activated to improve coordination with other government agencies and ensure a quick response to related incidents.

MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Nicolas Torre III said traffic enforcers and police personnel have been deployed along EDSA, particularly near the People Power Monument in Quezon City, where hundreds of individuals gathered.

Under the directive of MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, the agency said, illegally parked vehicles along the EDSA–White Plains Avenue stretch will be towed and issued citations in coordination with the Philippine National Police.

Meanwhile, MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Assistant Secretary David Angelo Vargas is overseeing the situation at EDSA and Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila through the agency’s Communications and Command Center using closed-circuit television cameras.

The MMDA also said it has pre-positioned vehicles on standby to provide transportation assistance to commuters who may be affected by the gathering.
