PNP: Rank, Status Won’t Shield Flood Control Case Accused

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it enforced court-issued arrest and custody orders against several high-profile personalities linked to alleged irregularities in government flood control projects with fairness, professionalism and respect for due process.

The statement came after Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla confirmed during a press briefing at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group headquarters that authorities had implemented warrants issued by the Sandiganbayan against respondents facing plunder and graft charges.

Remulla said the law enforcement actions were carried out in accordance with legal procedures.

The CIDG served the arrest warrant against Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and processed him under existing custody protocols. Former public works secretary Manuel Bonoan and another respondent voluntarily surrendered to the PNP after the court orders were issued, while other respondents separately appeared before the Sandiganbayan to comply with its directives.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization remains committed to enforcing lawful orders without regard to rank, influence or public position.

“The Philippine National Police will continue to enforce lawful court orders fairly, professionally, and without fear or favor. Our duty is to uphold the law while ensuring that the rights of all persons are respected throughout the process,” Nartatez said.

He said public trust is strengthened when law enforcement agencies apply legal processes equally and remain guided by accountability, professionalism and the rule of law.

As court proceedings continue, the PNP said it will coordinate with the judiciary and other government agencies to help ensure the orderly administration of justice.
