The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) conducted its three-day “Turning Evidence into Policy” workshop to equip health researchers with the skills to translate research findings into policy recommendations and strengthen evidence-informed decision-making.
The workshop aims to help build a more informed and responsive health policy landscape by enabling researchers to communicate scientific evidence more effectively to policymakers and the public.
DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the initiative reflects the Council’s continuing commitment to ensuring that health research is translated into policies and programs that benefit communities.
“Through this workshop series, we aim to provide our health researchers with the necessary tools and skillset to engage the public and decision makers, with the vision to move research findings from the shelves into active community use,” Solidum said.
The training featured lectures, mentoring sessions, and hands-on workshops focused on developing policy-oriented outputs and strengthening participants’ engagement with policymakers.
Sessions were facilitated by Associate Professor Romulo Nieva Jr. of the University of the Philippines Manila–College of Public Health, along with Dr. Ma. Esmeralda Silva-Javier and international health promotion specialist Dr. Jason Ligot.
Solidum said the workshop, which brought together researchers from different regions, is expected to help advance policies and practices that will improve health services and promote the health and well-being of Filipinos.
