CIDG Wraps Aurora Probe, DOJ Filing of Charges Set Friday After 100 Interviews, 1,200 Pages of Testimony

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) is set to wrap up its investigation this week into the deaths of Ateneo student-athletes in Aurora, with the filing of charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) targeted for Friday.

Remulla said the two-week probe is in its final phase after investigators interviewed nearly 100 individuals and consolidated more than 1,200 pages of sworn statements.

“This investigation has been going on for the last two weeks. We’ve interviewed almost 100 people and we now have more than 1,200 pages of testimonies from those who were present. We are nearly complete,” he said.

He added that the CIDG has expressed confidence in its case build-up.

“Conclusive na at very confident sa case buildup ang CIDG,” Remulla said.

According to the DILG chief, only a few individuals remain to be interviewed, including former players and representatives of Ateneo management, to complete the remaining aspects of the investigation.

“By Friday, we will submit this to the DOJ for filing of cases. Just wait for the final assessment and we will explain what we found in this investigation,” he added.

The DILG earlier ordered the CIDG to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8, 2026, including possible violations of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.
