The Department of National Defense (DND) convened the Ad Hoc ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) Working Group on Monday, June 8, to advance preparations for upcoming regional defense engagements.
The meeting, held via video conference, was presided over by Director Faysaleyyah Abdullah of the Office for International Affairs on behalf of Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Marita Yoro, who chairs the working group.
The discussions focused on preparations for key ASEAN defense meetings and the continued implementation of initiatives under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) framework.
Participating countries tackled priority defense cooperation programs, proposed outcome documents for future ADMM and ADMM-Plus meetings, and other matters related to regional peace, security, and stability.
The DND said the meeting reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to dialogue, stronger defense cooperation, and a responsive regional security architecture capable of addressing emerging security challenges.
