Batangas City School Suspends Classes After Online Threat Against Students

Classes at Batangas City Integrated High School were suspended Monday after the school received an online threat from a person claiming to be a student, authorities said.

Batangas City police said the threat was sent to the school’s Facebook page on Sunday night through what appeared to be a dummy account. The person claimed to be a Grade 10 student and alleged that he or she had been bullied.

City police spokesperson Lt. Sharen Ama said the message contained threats to shoot or stab students from Grades 7 to 10, prompting school officials to report the incident to police.

PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co read the message during a press briefing at Camp Crame.

“Babarilin o sasaksakin ko kayo, mga Grade 7, 8, 9, 10. Grade 10 ako. Hindi nyo ako kilala pero binubully nyo ako,” the message said.

The Batangas City police has sought assistance from the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to identify the person behind the threat.

Police investigators were immediately sent to the school to assess the situation. Ama said initial findings showed there was no imminent threat to the campus.

“The school is very safe,” Ama said. “But we treated it seriously, that’s why we went there last night and assessed the situation.”

Ama said the school, which has around 7,000 students, remains secured. She said personnel from the PNP Special Weapons and Tactics Team have been deployed at the campus since classes opened earlier this month.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the source of the online threat.
