Mindanao Quake Death Toll at 77; Thousands Injured, Displaced

The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani and nearby areas has climbed to 77, according to the latest report released on June 23, 2026.

Sarangani recorded the highest number of fatalities with 29, followed by South Cotabato with 27, Davao Occidental with 20, and Davao del Sur with one.

Injuries have reached 1,339, with South Cotabato accounting for 948 cases. Other affected areas include Sarangani (189), Cotabato (101), Davao Occidental (47), Sultan Kudarat (21), Davao del Sur (18), Davao del Norte (7), and Basilan (1).

Authorities also reported 31 people remain missing—16 from Sarangani, 13 from Davao Occidental, and two from South Cotabato.

An estimated 383,000 families or more than 1.64 million individuals have been affected across several parts of Mindanao.

About 5,800 families, or 25,500 individuals, are currently staying in 63 evacuation centers after being displaced.

Infrastructure damage has been estimated at P1.36 billion, including 87,100 damaged houses—71,600 partially damaged and 15,400 totally destroyed. Agricultural losses were placed at P29.8 million.

Eighteen cities and municipalities have been placed under a state of calamity to fast-track response and relief operations.

Government assistance has reached P385.7 million, with an additional P8.5 million provided to local government units and response agencies.

Search, rescue, and relief operations continue as authorities work to locate missing individuals and support affected communities in recovery efforts.
