Valenzuela Provides Free Diabetes Supplies To Young Patients

Valenzuela City has started distributing free insulin and diabetes care supplies to young residents living with Type 1 Diabetes under its Changing Diabetes in Children Program.

Mayor Wes Gatchalian led the turnover of medical supplies to 40 selected beneficiaries on June 3, 2026, at the Valenzuela Red Cross Volunteers Center. He was joined by Councilors Niña Lopez and Lorie Natividad-Borja.

The program supports children and young adults aged 0 to 25 who require regular treatment and monitoring for Type 1 Diabetes. Each care package includes essential supplies such as needles, glucose meters, insulin, specifically Tresiba and Novorapid, and support for HbA1c monitoring.

Through the initiative, qualified patients will receive the supplies free of charge every quarter for five years, helping reduce the financial burden on families and ensuring more consistent diabetes management.

The city government said the program aims to make quality healthcare more accessible to young patients who need daily diabetes care. The long-term assistance is being implemented in partnership with Novo Nordisk, Roche, Humanity & Inclusion, and the Philippine Red Cross.

Officials said the program is expected to help beneficiaries manage their condition more safely, improve treatment compliance, and support a better quality of life.
