The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a comprehensive review of school security protocols following the recent shooting incident in Tacloban City, including stricter access controls, bag inspection procedures, and stronger coordination with schools and barangay officials.

PNP official Co said the review is being carried out in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez.

He said the measures aim to strengthen coordination between law enforcement, schools, and local communities, with increased police visibility in areas identified as high-risk, particularly during the start and end of classes.

“We are strengthening coordination with barangays and deploying police where presence is most needed,” Co said.

The PNP is also studying the conduct of simulation exercises similar to earthquake drills to prepare students and teachers for emergency situations, including active shooter scenarios.

Alongside security measures, authorities are also reviewing existing anti-bullying policies and their implementation in schools.
