Vice President Sara Duterte visited Senator Rodante Marcoleta on Tuesday morning at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, where the lawmaker remains under medical observation following his arrest in a P75-million plunder case.
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, internal medicine chief of the PNP Health Service, said Duterte arrived at the hospital at around 7:30 am and stayed for about an hour.
“Vice President Duterte was here at 7:30 am and left around 8:30 am,” Bayani told reporters.
Bayani said Marcoleta was also visited by his family members and lawyer while confined at the police hospital.
As of 9 am, Marcoleta’s blood pressure was recorded at 140/90. Bayani said doctors continue to monitor the senator, who still experiences “occasional chest pain and nape pain.”
“Sen. Marcoleta is known to be hypertensive, so we have to monitor his blood pressure,” Bayani said.
Marcoleta was arrested on Monday along with former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray in connection with the plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.
Marcoleta was brought to the PNP General Hospital after complaining of chest pain. Defensor and Espiritu have already been committed to the Quezon City Jail, while Viray was expected to be brought to the Sandiganbayan on Tuesday morning for the return of the warrant.
