Two men died after a motorcycle lost control and crashed into a roadside gutter along San Mateo Road in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, early Sunday morning.
CCTV footage showed the motorcycle approaching at speed before veering off the road and hitting the gutter near a group of bystanders. The impact sent the rider, his passenger, and several people near the roadside tumbling to the ground.
Both occupants of the motorcycle were declared dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
Police said initial findings suggest alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Authorities noted accounts from relatives indicating the victims had come from a gathering where they had been drinking before deciding to ride out to eat.
Investigators said the motorcycle was traversing a curved, downhill section of the road when it overshot the lane and crashed. Speed was also considered a contributing factor.
Neither the rider nor the passenger was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, according to police.
The Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 5 is continuing its investigation and reviewing CCTV footage to fully establish the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
