Taguig Cop Relieved, Charged Over Alleged Harassment Of 8-Year-Old Girl

The Philippine National Police has ordered an expedited investigation and the filing of appropriate charges against a Taguig City police corporal accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. directed the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police Station to submit a report on the incident and ensure that the respondent remains off operational duties while the case is pending.

“This is unacceptable. We condemn any form of misconduct, especially those involving children. We will ensure that the case is investigated thoroughly, impartially, and in accordance with the law,” Nartatez said.

The case stemmed from a complaint against a police corporal assigned to Taguig City Police Substation 4.

According to the victim’s mother, the incident happened on June 21, when the police officer allegedly caressed the face of her eight-year-old daughter without consent and asked for a kiss, saying she was prettier than his wife.

The girl reportedly felt intimidated, uncomfortable, and embarrassed by the incident.

The police corporal has been charged with alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, in relation to Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

He is also facing an administrative investigation for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer. He has been relieved from his post pending the outcome of the proceedings.

“I have directed the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police to ensure that the respondent remains off operational duties while the case is being resolved,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said the move is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., through the guidance of DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to uphold police professionalism, protect children and vulnerable sectors, and hold accountable officers who violate the law and public trust.

“The actions of one individual do not define the entire organization. Every violation of our standards is taken seriously. We remain committed to strengthening discipline, professionalism, and public trust through swift and decisive action,” Nartatez said.
