Disinformation surrounding high-profile legal proceedings against Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has sparked swift pushback from lawmakers after fabricated statements began circulating online.
Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan strongly rejected viral claims suggesting he had proposed a legislative resolution authorizing a shoot-to-kill order against Dela Rosa if the senator fails to surrender to authorities.
Suan clarified that he never issued any warnings, threats, or proposals calling for violent measures against the former top cop.
“I categorically deny having made any statement warning that I would convene a House committee hearing or file a so-called “shoot-to-kill” resolution if Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa fails to surrender in connection with matters involving an International Criminal Court arrest warrant,” Suan said in a statement.
The Mindanao lawmaker emphasized his adherence to constitutional bounds and statutory procedure.
“As a lawyer and public servant, I believe firmly in due process and the rule of law,” Suan also said.
Suan maintained that he would not back any initiative promoting violence or compromising democratic principles.
Dela Rosa currently faces an arrest order from the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity connected to the drug war conducted during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. Dela Rosa served as chief of the Philippine National Police during the campaign.
The Department of Justice and the Solicitor General have declared Dela Rosa a fugitive from justice, with private and official reward offers for his apprehension reaching P50 million.
Suan reiterated that reports accusing him of planning legislative hearings or drafting shoot-to-kill measures are completely false and ungrounded in any official statements, legislative records, or interviews.
The lawmaker cautioned that deliberate disinformation distorts public understanding of critical national legal developments.
“I urge the public to verify information from credible and official sources before believing or sharing it. My official social media accounts and the channels of the House of Representatives remain the only reliable outlets for my positions and statements,” Suan added.
