The nation celebrated its 128th Independence Day with a call to honor the courage and sacrifices of ancestors who fought against foreign oppression.
In a statement, Senate President Pro Tempore Sen. Win Gatchalian emphasized that true independence goes beyond politics, urging Filipinos to rise above division and focus on service to the people.
Lawmakers highlighted the ongoing work to advance measures that address poverty, promote quality education, improve healthcare, and create dignified economic opportunities for all citizens.
“Full freedom cannot be realized while millions of our countrymen remain hindered by poverty,” he said. “To fully enjoy independence, efforts must continue to enact laws that liberate our people through education, health, and livelihood opportunities.”
The Senate extended Independence Day greetings to all Filipinos, reminding the public of the enduring spirit of service and unity that underpins the nation’s freedom.
