PNP Seizes P12.4M Smuggled Goods, Wildlife in Nationwide Operations

The Philippine National Police seized more than ₱12.4 million worth of smuggled goods and illegally kept wildlife in a series of coordinated operations across the country on June 3.

The PNP said the operations, conducted with law enforcement and regulatory agencies, formed part of its intensified campaign against smuggling, illegal trade and environmental crimes.

In Cebu, police and partner agencies intercepted wildlife species worth around ₱3.5 million in Medellin. The rescued animals were turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for proper handling and rehabilitation, while the arrested suspect was taken into custody for investigation.

In Bukidnon, authorities seized smuggled cigarettes worth more than ₱2.4 million during a checkpoint operation that led to the arrest of two suspects.

A separate operation in Zamboanga City resulted in the confiscation of around ₱2.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes.

In the Bangsamoro region, law enforcement units seized more than ₱1.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes during a late-night operation.

In Pasig City, authorities served a search warrant that led to the arrest of suspects and the confiscation of assorted imported appliances valued at more than ₱2.2 million for alleged violation of consumer protection laws.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units and said the operations reflected stronger intelligence-driven and inter-agency enforcement efforts.

“Patuloy po ang ating operasyon laban sa mga iligal na gawain. We are serious in making sure that laws are enforced consistently and fairly,” Nartatez said.

“Sa ating mga kababayan, makakaasa po kayo na tuloy-tuloy ang ating trabaho para mapanatili ang kaayusan at protektahan ang ating ekonomiya at kalikasan,” he added.

Nartatez said the results showed the importance of coordination among agencies in stopping smuggling activities and protecting consumers, the economy and the environment.

The PNP said follow-up investigations and legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals, while the confiscated items are under the custody of concerned agencies for proper disposition.
