PNP intensifies intelligence monitoring vs drug syndicates as smuggling tactics change

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., ordered intensified intelligence gathering and field operations to detect and disrupt evolving transport schemes used by drug syndicates to smuggle narcotics into the country.

The directive follows ongoing PNP investigations into reports of massive illegal drug shipments intercepted in Laos and Thailand that were allegedly intended for distribution in the Philippines.

“We are intensifying our intelligence monitoring and information sharing with regional counterparts to deny opportunities for illegal drugs syndicates either to operate in the Philippines or to make our country a transshipment point for illegal drugs,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“These syndicates often shift to new strategies to continue their illicit activities and those are the things we are currently monitoring,” PGEN Nartatez also said.

The PNP previously confirmed it was probing the seizure of 521 kilograms of suspected shabu intercepted by Laotian authorities aboard a private jet. Investigators are verifying the aircraft’s ownership and examining its registered flight path.

Police are simultaneously checking a separate interdiction in Thailand involving a consignment of suspected shabu. Foreign authorities reported that both shipments were allegedly heading to Manila.

PGEN Nartatez stressed that police forces will prevent international cartels from reversing state progress achieved in the national anti-drug campaign.

The heightened posture aligns with instructions from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., issued through DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, calling for aggressive enforcement and deeper international collaboration against transnational crime rings.

PGEN Nartatez said institutional ties with overseas law enforcement agencies remain robust, emphasizing that operational focus rests on dismantling trafficking networks and arresting key operatives.

PGEN Nartatez also said government law enforcement has recorded substantial achievements over the past four years as shown by total drug seizures and suspect arrests, adding that authorities will not allow new smuggling schemes to ruin that progress.

The PNP Chief urged citizens to assist law enforcers by reporting suspicious activities and submitting credible information to local police offices.
