PMA Cadets Learn Crisis Leadership From Class 2021 Top Graduates

Top-performing graduates of the Philippine Military Academy “MASALIGAN” Class of 2021 returned to PMA to share leadership lessons with First and Second Class cadets during the Voices of Leadership 2026 program at the Lopez Hall of Leaders on Thursday, June 25.

Organized by the PMA Department of Leadership, the activity carried the theme “Leading Through Uncertainty: Lessons in Resilience, Adaptability, and Service during the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

The program highlighted how the pandemic tested young military officers in situations marked by uncertainty, limited information, and rapidly changing conditions—challenges similar to those future leaders may face in the profession of arms.

The speakers were among the top graduates of PMA Class 2021: Lt. j.g. Janrey C. Artus PN, electronic warfare officer of BRP Diego Silang and class valedictorian and summa cum laude; 1Lt. Jan Hernan R. Perez PAF, deputy head of the Support Services Department of the Philippine Air Force Flying School and Top 4 graduate; and 1Lt. Christine Joyce G. Andog PA, Top 5 graduate.

Drawing from their first five years as officers, the speakers underscored the importance of caring for people while accomplishing the mission. They emphasized that officers must balance discipline, morale, welfare, academic demands, and organizational goals, especially under restrictive or uncertain conditions.

PMA said the activity helped cadets connect leadership principles with real military experience, showing that leadership requires not only adherence to systems but also sound judgment, initiative, and adaptability.

The academy said exposing cadets to real-life leadership situations will help prepare them for the evolving demands of military service and their future responsibilities as officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
