PH Secures Roblox Commitments on Child Safety, Eyes Discord Next

The Philippines has secured a series of commitments from Roblox aimed at strengthening child safety online, including enhanced age verification measures, faster cooperation with law enforcement and improved detection of harmful content, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

The DICT said these measures are intended to give Philippine authorities more direct channels for verification, investigations and coordination when addressing online harms involving Filipino users.

As part of the initiative, the Philippine government and Roblox will explore convening an industry roundtable with stakeholders to identify additional measures and best practices for protecting children online.

Roblox officials also highlighted the company’s growing presence in the country, where it already employs around 300 Filipinos. The company expressed optimism about expanding its local workforce further as it continues to grow its operations in the region.

DICT said these commitments represent an important step toward improving platform accountability and government response capabilities. However, the department emphasized that child online safety requires sustained cooperation across the entire digital ecosystem.

“These are concrete commitments. Now, the focus is on implementation,” the DICT stated, adding that the government’s engagement with digital platforms will extend beyond Roblox.

“We are taking a platform-by-platform approach. Roblox is one step. We are also looking at other platforms where children and young people spend their time online,” the department added.

The DICT is expected to engage Discord next as part of its broader child online safety push. The move follows growing global concerns regarding online grooming, harmful content and the use of private digital communities by individuals seeking to exploit minors.

The agency also encouraged parents to make active use of safety features offered by digital platforms. For instance, Discord provides tools such as direct message restrictions, explicit content filters, friend-request controls, parental monitoring tools like Family Center and server-level safety settings to help reduce unwanted contact and exposure to harmful content.

“Technology can help us detect risks faster and respond better. But no platform, government agency, school, or parent can do this alone. Protecting children online requires everyone working together. That is Digital Bayanihan,” the DICT said.
