The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) intensified its campaign against illegal parking on Thursday, May 29, conducting road-clearing operations in parts of Quezon City and Manila to keep major thoroughfares free from obstructions.
The operation was carried out by the MMDA Special Operations Group–Task Force for Road Clearing (SOG-TFRC), which inspected several roads identified as areas where illegally parked vehicles contribute to traffic congestion and hinder the smooth flow of vehicles.
Among the roads covered during the morning operation were Monte De Piedad, N. Domingo, 1st Street, Barangka Drive, F. Manalo Street, F. Benitez Street, and Zamora Street.
According to the MMDA, a total of 32 motorists were issued citation tickets for violating parking regulations during the enforcement activity.
Authorities also towed 14 vehicles found illegally parked along the inspected roads. The vehicles were transported to the MMDA impounding facility in Tumana, Marikina City.
The agency said the operation forms part of its continuing efforts to ensure that Metro Manila roads remain passable and free from obstructions that can worsen traffic conditions and pose safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.
The MMDA reiterated its appeal to drivers to observe traffic and parking regulations, warning that vehicles found illegally parked along public roads may be ticketed and towed as part of the agency’s ongoing road-clearing campaign.
Officials said similar operations will continue across Metro Manila in support of efforts to improve traffic flow and maintain order on the region’s road network, according to the MMDA.
