CIDG to Charge Padilla Over Dela Rosa Senate Escape

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said Wednesday it will file an obstruction of justice complaint against Senator Robin Padilla for allegedly helping Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa leave the Senate premises on May 14.

In a statement, the CIDG said Padilla and several other individuals, whom it did not identify, would be charged before the National Prosecution Service of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The police unit said its investigation found that Dela Rosa’s departure from the Senate compound was not a simple case of hitching a ride in Padilla’s vehicle, but a coordinated effort to evade detection.

“Following a thorough investigation, the CIDG has officially concluded that the transport of Senator Dela Rosa was not a mere hitch ride on Senator Padilla’s car, but a highly coordinated, pre-planned logistical maneuver specifically executed to avoid detection while escaping the Senate premises in the dawn of May 14, 2026,” the CIDG said.

Investigators also said another vehicle followed the car carrying Padilla and Dela Rosa, allegedly serving as a security escort and backup vehicle during the maneuver.

The CIDG said the filing of charges forms part of its mandate to investigate and enforce the law without exception.

“When individuals actively interfere in the arrest or assist in the evasion of criminal offenders to avoid prosecution, it undermines the justice system and compromises public order,” the CIDG said.

The police unit warned that any act that obstructs justice would be met with criminal prosecution.

“The PNP-CIDG emphasizes that any act of obstruction of justice will be met with criminal prosecution,” it added.
