PH-Japan Defense Pact Enters Into Force to Boost Military Cooperation

The Department of National Defense (DND) has formally welcomed the official entry into force of the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) between the Philippines and Japan, marking a significant milestone in bilateral security cooperation.

First signed in January of this year, the ACSA framework is designed to deepen operational coordination between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). By streamlining the reciprocal provision of logistical supplies and defense services, the pact will directly enhance joint military engagements.

Defense officials highlighted that the agreement will play a vital role in executing shared activities, particularly joint military exercises, capacity-building operations and humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) missions. Given both nations’ susceptibility to natural disasters, the framework ensures a faster, more coordinated response during regional crises.

DND said the implementation of the ACSA reflects the practical application of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Manila and Tokyo. Grounded in mutual trust, the defense pact further reinforces both nations’ shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
