Malacañang confirmed that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued subpoenas to three vloggers accused of spreading false information about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s health.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the matter had been referred for investigation, prompting the NBI to take action.
Castro said documents submitted by the PCO for further investigation into the alleged disinformation campaign have been transmitted to the NBI, which has begun proceedings by issuing subpoenas.
The case stems from a complaint endorsed by the PCO, through its Anti-Fake News Desk, to the Department of Justice on April 15. The complaint identified three Facebook accounts — “Crage Anderpal,” “Rigondola Ping,” and “Iloy Bugris: The Queen of Revelations” — for allegedly circulating fabricated claims about the President’s condition.
According to the PCO, one account conducted live broadcasts claiming that Marcos was critically ill, while another shared manipulated images portraying him in poor physical condition. A third account reportedly posted fabricated news-style graphics suggesting official confirmation of a serious illness.
Authorities said the subpoenas form part of efforts to investigate the spread of false information and determine possible violations of existing laws.
The Palace reiterated its warning against the circulation of fake news, urging the public to verify information and holding accountable those who deliberately mislead the public.
