The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has urged Filipino workers in Milan, Italy, to remain vigilant and avoid areas affected by unrest following clashes between police and protesters on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
Labor Attaché Margarita Eugenia Fabon Victorino-Marquez said the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Milan is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino workers in the area.
Initial reports indicated incidents of stone-throwing, vandalism of shops, and the burning of garbage bins near Piazza Duomo. Police reportedly used tear gas to control the unrest.
As of the latest report, there was no confirmed information on any overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) being injured or directly affected by the incidents.
The MWO Milan is coordinating with concerned authorities to obtain further information about the situation.
The DMW advised Filipino workers to avoid demonstrations, unrest, and crowded public squares, and to stay away from gatherings that could turn violent.
They were also urged to follow instructions from local authorities and monitor official announcements from Italian authorities, Philippine offices in Italy, and the MWO Milan for updates and safety advisories.
OFWs who need assistance or have concerns related to the situation may contact the MWO Milan.
