The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Flood Control team and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Estero Rangers carried out a cleanup operation at Kay Almirante Creek in Angela Village, Barangay Talon 4, Las Piñas City, as part of efforts to keep waterways clear and reduce the risk of flooding.
According to the agency report, the cleanup focused on removing accumulated waste from the creek, which serves as an important waterway in the area.
Using two dump trucks, ladders, and other cleanup equipment, the MMDA Flood Control personnel and DENR-Estero Rangers were able to collect and haul a total of 4.0 cubic meters of garbage from the creek.
“Isang malinis na kapaligiran, sama-samang pinagsumikapan,” the agency said, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in maintaining a clean and safe community.
Authorities said the clearing operation is a necessary measure to prevent waterways and esteros from becoming clogged, especially as blocked drainage channels can contribute to flooding during heavy rains.
The cleanup of Kay Almirante Creek also forms part of broader efforts to improve flood control measures in local communities by ensuring that creeks, canals, and other waterways remain free from waste and obstruction.
The agency also thanked those who took part in the operation and reminded residents to help maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
“Panatilihing malinis ang kapaligiran para sa kapakanan ng bawat isa,” the agency added.
Officials stressed that regular cleanup activities and public cooperation are vital in protecting communities from flooding and preserving a healthier environment for residents.
