Solid waste post-clearing operations following annual holiday gatherings continue to place a severe burden on local municipal sanitation frameworks across the capital region.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) collected 36.19 tons of garbage from 27 cemeteries across Metro Manila during the observance of Undas from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2.
The agency noted that the volume of collected waste was equivalent to more than 15 truckloads or roughly 1,695 garbage bags.
To manage the waste accumulation, a total of 316 MMDA personnel were deployed to various cemeteries to conduct cleanup operations and assist in maintaining cleanliness and order amid the influx of visitors.
The MMDA said that it will continue its efforts to promote cleanliness and order in public places across Metro Manila.
