MMDA Clarifies Role After Asphalt Debris Concern on EDSA Rehab

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) clarified that it has no role in the contractor operations of the ongoing EDSA rehabilitation project after an online post raised concerns over loose asphalt debris along the highway.

The issue stemmed from a post shared by motoring platform VISOR, which featured a complaint from netizen Adrian Cedo about asphalt materials allegedly left scattered on the road during rehabilitation works.

Cedo said he welcomed the improvements being done along EDSA but raised concern over loose asphalt that could be run over by vehicles and pose possible risks to motorists. He also questioned whether the project contractor should exercise greater care in handling roadwork materials.

In response, the MMDA said the EDSA rehabilitation project is under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways. The agency stressed that it is not involved in the contractor’s roadwork operations.

However, the MMDA said it continues to coordinate with the DPWH to help manage traffic flow and ease congestion while the rehabilitation works are ongoing.
