President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed on Wednesday to deepen Philippines–Singapore cooperation in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, health and social development during the Philippine leader’s official visit to the city-state.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the two leaders also committed to pursuing new bilateral agreements aimed at expanding collaboration across key sectors and strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
Marcos and Wong likewise discussed Singapore’s upcoming chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2027 and reaffirmed their commitment to uphold ASEAN centrality and work together toward a peaceful, stable and prosperous Southeast Asia.
Marcos arrived in Singapore on Tuesday for a two-day official visit that runs until July 16. During the trip, he is scheduled to join a private Milken Institute roundtable on the Philippines’ transition to upper-middle-income status with Singapore-based business leaders.
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who is accompanying the President, is also set to speak at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit at the invitation of the Future Economic Cooperation Council.
