The Manila Health Department on Tuesday urged residents to remain vigilant against W.I.L.D. diseases during the rainy season after the city recorded new cases of dengue, influenza-like illness and other infections.
According to the department’s July 14 disease surveillance report, Manila logged 10 new dengue cases, bringing the city’s year-to-date total to 1,945.
Nine additional cases of influenza-like illness were also recorded, raising the cumulative count to 768.
The city reported three new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 51, while three additional cases of severe acute respiratory infection increased the year-to-date count to 238.
Two new leptospirosis cases were also recorded, raising Manila’s total to 92.
No new cases of cholera or typhoid fever were reported on July 14. The city, however, has recorded three cholera cases and 55 typhoid fever cases since the start of the year.
The health department advised residents to keep their surroundings clean, eliminate stagnant water that may serve as mosquito breeding grounds and ensure access to safe drinking water.
It also urged people experiencing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health center.
Authorities reminded the public to continue observing preventive measures as persistent rains increase the risk of mosquito-borne, water-borne and respiratory diseases.
