PNP Probes Fake Aid Scheme, Warns Public Against Fraudulent Collections

The Philippine National Police has launched an investigation into individuals and groups allegedly collecting money from the public in exchange for the supposed early release of government financial assistance.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Sunday that the police force is working to identify and hold accountable those exploiting government assistance programs for illegal gain.

Nartatez also ordered intensified operations against individuals and groups allegedly using the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) to deceive and defraud the public.

The move comes after the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES)  warned the public last Tuesday against individuals and groups falsely claiming to be authorized government representatives of the LGSF and SCPF programs.

According to the OES, it received reports that the suspects arranged meetings, used official logos, collected personal information and demanded money from victims in exchange for the supposed approval or release of financial assistance.

Nartatez directed all PNP field units to strengthen surveillance and investigative operations to prevent government programs from being exploited for personal gain.

He assured the public that authorities would conduct a thorough investigation and file appropriate charges against those found responsible.

The PNP chief also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities involving the LGSF and SCPF.

“We appeal to the public to be discerning and vigilant and immediately report to the authorities if they find anything suspicious so our cops can respond swiftly,” said Nartatez.

Reports may be made through PNP hotlines, including the national emergency number 911.
