Bureau of Immigration operatives arrested a South Korean fugitive in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, who is wanted by authorities in Seoul and the International Criminal Police Organization.
BI Fugitive Search Unit chief Rendel Ryan Sy identified the fugitive as Seong Jeonghu, 34.
Sy said Seong is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Busan District Court for allegedly violating South Korea’s National Sports Promotion Act.
An Interpol Red Notice was also issued against him in April 2020.
The BI said the arrest was carried out by the BI-FSU in coordination with South Korean police and the Philippine National Police, following verified intelligence reports on Seong’s whereabouts.
Seong is now detained at the BI Warden Facility while undergoing deportation proceedings.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the government would continue pursuing foreign fugitives hiding in the country.
“We will never allow the Philippines to become a sanctuary for foreign fugitives escaping justice in their own countries,” Viado said.
“Under the directive of President Marcos, we are aggressively pursuing undesirable aliens and strengthening our coordination with international partners to ensure that those involved in criminal activities are located, arrested, and deported,” he added.
