The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested two foreign nationals in separate operations, including an overstaying Nigerian and a Chinese national who allegedly claimed to be Filipino.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the arrests were carried out by the BI’s Regional Intelligence Operations Units, with support from local police and other law enforcement agencies.
BI agents arrested Nigerian national Joshua Esosa Osarhiemen, 38, in Cauayan City, Isabela on May 11, 2026 after authorities confirmed that he had overstayed in the Philippines.
A day later, immigration operatives apprehended Chinese national Xu Haishen, 39, in Roxas, Palawan. The operation was conducted with the assistance of several government intelligence and security agencies.
According to the BI, Xu allegedly used another identity and claimed to be a Filipino citizen. Authorities also verified derogatory information against him, prompting his arrest.
Viado said both foreign nationals underwent booking and documentation procedures before they were transferred to the BI Warden Facility. They are now facing deportation proceedings.
“We are relentless in our efforts to locate, arrest, and deport foreign nationals who violate our immigration laws or attempt to deceive authorities,” Viado said.
He said the government would continue going after foreigners who stay illegally in the country or use fraudulent identities to evade immigration rules.
“The President has made it clear that the Philippines will not serve as a sanctuary for illegal aliens, fraudsters, or individuals who threaten public order and national security,” Viado added.
