House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Tuesday paid tribute to Filipina tennis star Alex Eala, saying her historic Wimbledon campaign had already won the hearts of Filipinos.
Dy said Eala’s breakthrough performance marked another milestone for Philippine tennis and showed that greater achievements lie ahead for the young athlete.
Although Eala fell short of the title, the Speaker said her Wimbledon run was already a victory for the country as she continued to raise the profile of Filipino athletes on the world stage.
“Hindi man nagtapos sa panalo ang makasaysayang kampanya mo sa Wimbledon, Alex, panalo ka pa rin sa puso ng bawat Pilipino,” Dy said in a statement.
He said every match Eala played reflected her determination, resilience, and steady rise as one of tennis’ promising young stars.
“Every match, every victory, every loss is another step forward in what is already becoming an extraordinary career,” he said.
Dy also thanked Eala for bringing pride and honor to the Philippines and for inspiring young Filipinos who dream of making their mark in sports and on the international stage.
“Maraming salamat sa karangalang ibinigay mo sa ating bayan. Proud kaming lahat sa’yo. The best is yet to come,” he added.
