House prosecutor and San Juan City Representative Bel Zamora has addressed personal attacks and misogynistic commentary directed against her on social media, emphasizing that public focus should remain on the evidence presented in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The backlash followed Zamora’s direct examination of witness Police Major Joericson Sangalang regarding firearms omitted from official financial and asset disclosures.
Addressing the online commentary targeting her gender and appearance, the lawmaker urged critics to concentrate on the legal issues rather than personal detraction.
“First, it’s so unfortunate that a lot of Filipinos still think that way. They still make misogynistic remarks, especially directed towards women, girls, who apparently are smart and can speak well and can be a lawyer in an impeachment court,” Zamora said.
She also said, “So, siguro, they can’t handle such, they can’t handle style. And well, really, I don’t care if they bash me. I’m here to do my job. And let’s see. Yun lang. I mean seriously, di ba? They should get a life.”
Zamora reaffirmed her commitment to discharging her duties as a public prosecutor regardless of external noise, noting that the prosecution’s mandate centers on establishing facts under oath.
