Recent committee changes in the House of Representatives should not be linked to the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, a House trial official said.
The clarification came after questions were raised over adjustments in committee memberships and leadership posts involving some lawmakers.
House trial spokesperson and Kabataan party-list Rep. Renee Co said the changes were part of internal House movements and should not be interpreted as a consequence of how members voted, or did not vote, on the impeachment issue.
“Mayroon pong iilang nagkaroon ng pagbabago sa membership ng kanilang committees at may ilang nakita tayo na-assign in leadership,” she said in a radio interview.
She pointed out that the adjustments were administrative in nature and not connected to the impeachment vote against Duterte.
“Mas yun pa ang nangyari, hindi po ito connected sa doon pagboto o hindi sa particular na issue,” Co added.
The House official stressed that claims tying the committee movements to the impeachment case were unfounded without clear basis.
She said lawmakers directly affected by the changes would be in the best position to explain their new committee assignments or leadership roles.
“Siguro mas magandang tanungin mismo ang mga kongresistang involved,” she averred.
The clarification comes as the House continues to face scrutiny over developments related to the impeachment proceedings, including political alignments and internal chamber decisions.
