Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region and six provinces in North Luzon effective 3 p.m. Wednesday, respionding to heavy rainfall warnings caused by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
The directive applies to Metro Manila alongside the provinces of Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan and Zambales.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto issued tMemorandum Circular No. 121 following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Frontline agencies involved in delivering basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response and other vital services are exempted from the suspension.
Recto said local chief executives may order localized class and government work suspensions in other areas.
The suspension of work in private companies and offices, meanwhile, is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
