House Speaker Faustino “Inno” Dy V has called for comprehensive legislative reforms targeting gun access and social media usage to enhance child safety measures across the country.
During a press briefing at the House of Representatives, Dy outlined proposed policy measures aimed at addressing systemic safety risks facing young citizens, both in physical communities and digital spaces.
“We need to ensure that our laws evolve alongside the new challenges facing our children,” Dy said. “Firearms must be kept strictly out of reach of minors, and social media platforms must be held accountable for the safety of young users.”
The House leader emphasized that lawmakers are reviewing existing firearm regulation laws to mandate stricter background checks, safe storage requirements, and stiffer penalties for negligence that allows minors access to weapons.
Turning to digital environments, Dy highlighted the growing impact of online platforms on youth well-being, calling for mandatory age verification mechanisms and enhanced privacy safeguards.
“Our children are exposed to unprecedented digital risks every day,” Dy added. “It is our duty as legislators to build strong protective guardrails in the physical world and online.”
Congressional committees on public order and safety, alongside information and communications technology, are expected to conduct joint hearings to consolidate related legislative proposals.
