The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a nearly 16-percent drop in the country’s eight focus crimes, citing intensified police visibility, targeted patrols, and community-based interventions under its Safer Cities Initiative.
PNP data showed that focus crime incidents fell by 15.99 percent from April 6 to June 3, 2026, compared with the previous monitoring period from February 6 to April 5, 2026.
Cases declined from 5,811 to 4,882, or 929 fewer incidents nationwide.
The PNP said all eight focus crime categories registered decreases, including murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles.
The decline coincided with the rollout of the Safer Cities Initiative under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations program, which began on April 6, 2026. The program increased police presence in crime-prone areas, strengthened patrol deployment, and focused interventions in identified hotspots.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the figures showed the effect of proactive policing and closer coordination with local government units and communities.
“Ang pagbaba ng crime incidents ay patunay na kapag tuloy-tuloy ang police presence, mabilis ang pagtugon, at aktibo ang partisipasyon ng komunidad, may positibong resulta tayong nakikita. Ngunit hindi tayo titigil dito,” Nartatez said.
“Our goal is not only to reduce crime statistics but to ensure that every Filipino feels safer in their homes and communities,” he added.
Among the eight focus crimes, rape recorded the biggest decline at 30.07 percent, followed by carnapping of motor vehicles at 25.93 percent and physical injury at 25.18 percent.
Nartatez said the gains should push police units nationwide to sustain the momentum and further improve public safety operations.
“Magandang indikasyon ito na gumagana ang ating mga programa, pero kailangan nating panatilihin ang momentum,” he said.
“We will continue to strengthen crime prevention measures, improve police visibility, and work closely with our stakeholders while ensuring that all police actions remain within the bounds of the law and with full respect for human rights,” he added.
The PNP said it will continue to pursue data-driven policing, stronger community partnerships, and responsive law enforcement services to sustain the decline in crimes nationwide.
