A delivery rider seeking shelter from heavy rain died on Sunday, August 9, after a tree and a utility pole collapsed on him along Circumferential Road in Barangay San Isidro, Antipolo City.
Antipolo City Mayor Jun-Andeng Ynares reported via a Facebook post that emergency responders immediately rushed the victim to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System (RPHS) Antipolo Annex 2, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
“At present, his family members are in Pasay, Laguna and Catanduanes. We are waiting for them to arrive so we can properly assist and support them,” Ynares said.
The mayor assured that the city government will shoulder the victim’s medical and funeral expenses to support his family.
Local authorities conducted immediate clearing operations at the scene, successfully removing the fallen debris and reopening the road to traffic shortly after.
Following the incident, the Antipolo City government advised motorists and residents to exercise extreme caution during severe weather, warning the public to avoid taking shelter near trees, power lines, and unstable structures.
