The Department of Energy (DOE) conducted another session of its Sustainable Energy Planning for Local Government Units (SEP4LGUs) Webinar Series aimed at strengthening the capacity of local government units (LGUs) to develop resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy plans aligned with the Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050.
During the webinar, DOE Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella, speaking on behalf of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, emphasized that energy is a people-centered development concern that directly impacts livelihoods, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.
The online discussion highlighted key DOE programs and policies, including renewable energy initiatives, rooftop solar and net-metering programs, as well as energy efficiency measures under the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).
The DOE also encouraged LGUs to integrate energy planning into their local development strategies to help strengthen community resilience and support long-term sustainability goals.
According to the department, initiatives such as the SEP4LGUs Webinar Series aim to equip local governments with the knowledge and tools needed to build cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy systems for communities across the country.
The DOE said the program forms part of continuing efforts to promote sustainable energy development and strengthen local participation in achieving the country’s long-term energy goals, according to the source agency.
