The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has partnered with the Social Security System (SSS) to strengthen digital workforce development and expand social protection for Filipino freelancers and online professionals.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two agencies will support the development of digital workers, recognizing their growing contribution to the economy and the need to provide them with access to relevant skills development programs and social security benefits.
DICT Secretary Robert Joseph Montes de Claro said digital progress must go beyond job creation to include support and protection for the people driving the sector’s growth.
“True growth in the digital economy is not measured solely by the number of opportunities it creates, but also by how well we support and protect the people who make that growth possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Victor Alfonso Araullo Limlingan highlighted the partnership’s role in raising awareness of social security programs, encouraging membership and registration, and promoting the inclusion of digital economy workers in the country’s social protection system.
The two agencies also signed a data-sharing agreement to facilitate the integration of the MySSS Card and selected SSS services into the eGovPH Super App, making these services more accessible through the government’s unified digital platform.
The initiatives support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s broader agenda of preparing Filipino workers for evolving labor market demands, expanding quality employment opportunities, and ensuring that digital transformation delivers meaningful benefits and stronger social protection for Filipinos.
