Bribery Seen as Most Serious Impeachable Offense vs VP, OCTA Survey Shows

A plurality of Filipinos consider bribery the most serious impeachable offense a public official could commit, according to an OCTA Research survey released Monday.

The nationwide poll found that 43 percent of respondents identified bribery as the gravest impeachable offense This was followed by misuse of public funds, including confidential funds, at 28 percent.

Unexplained wealth and grave threats were each identified by 10 percent of respondents, while eight percent said they did not know or declined to answer.

Across socioeconomic groups, half of the respondents from Class E ranked bribery as the gravest offense, along with 43 percent of Class D and 37 percent from Class ABC. 

The survey was conducted from July 4 to 11, during the period when the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte began.

OCT interviewed 1,200 adult respondents nationwide through face-to-face interviews. The survey had a margin of error of ±3 percentage points at 95 percent confidence level.

The Vice President is facing impeachment over allegations that include misuse of public funds, unexplained wealth, bribery and grave threat.
