Philippine bet Asia Rose Simpson finished in the Top 12 of Miss World 2026 after a strong campaign that saw her win the Head-to-Head Challenge and place third in the Talent competition.
Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic was crowned the 73rd Miss World during the grand final on September 5 at 2 April Square in Nha Trang, Vietnam.
The 24-year-old educator, journalist and community advocate succeeded Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri after besting a field of 111 contestants.
Spain’s Elisabeth Reynés finished first runner-up, while Malaysia’s Taanusiya Chetty was named second runner-up and overall winner of the Beauty With a Purpose challenge.
Mola’s victory gave the Dominican Republic its second Miss World crown, 44 years after Mariasela Álvarez became the country’s first winner in 1982.
Asia Rose makes her mark
Simpson entered the coronation night with several achievements already secured.
The Filipino-American beauty queen was named the Asia and Oceania winner of the Head-to-Head Challenge before eventually taking the overall title and securing an automatic place in the Top 20.
She advanced to the Top 12 alongside Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Eritrea, France, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, Spain, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Her campaign ended when the field was narrowed to six. South Africa’s Romanda Hombir, Mola, Vietnam’s Lê Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc and Reynés advanced as continental representatives, while Chetty moved forward through Beauty With a Purpose and Eritrea’s Snit Tewoldemedhin through the People’s Choice vote.
Simpson also finished third in the Talent Challenge, behind winner Grace Richardson of England and second placer Annaelle Ibo of Guadeloupe.
Her Beauty With a Purpose project, which uses sports and dance to promote the physical, mental and emotional well-being of young people, was also selected among the finalists for Asia and Oceania.
From Quezon City to the world stage
Simpson represented Quezon City when she won the Miss World Philippines 2026 crown, along with the national pageant’s Beauty With a Purpose and Talent competitions.
According to her official Miss World profile, Simpson is a student who speaks English, Tagalog and Hiligaynon. She hopes to become a published children’s book author and illustrator and plans to pursue studies in theology and the arts.
Her interests include painting, drawing, reading, writing, singing, baking, crocheting and pickleball. She also has a background in gymnastics and appeared on “Pilipinas Got Talent” when she was eight years old.
During the Top 12 question-and-answer round, Simpson was asked what she wanted the world to understand about the region she represented.
Drawing from her Filipino-American background, she highlighted the importance of family in Filipino culture and identified unity as the value she wanted to share with the world.
Mola Brings Miss World Crown Back to Dominican Republic
Mola also entered the final with a challenge victory after being named the Americas and Caribbean winner of the Top Model competition.
According to her official Miss World profile, Mola teaches Literature and Social Studies in English and works as a news correspondent. She holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana.
She is also the founder and president of Voices of Tomorrow, an initiative that seeks to expand access to English education for children and young people in vulnerable communities.
During the final round, Mola was asked about her Beauty With a Purpose work in the Dominican Republic and how she would expand it as Miss World.
She spoke about providing English-language programs to children in vulnerable communities and the opportunities that learning another language could offer them.
Mola was later crowned by outgoing titleholder Chuangsri, who became Thailand’s first Miss World winner in 2025.
PH’s wait for a second crown continues
Simpson had hoped to become the second Filipina to capture the Miss World crown.
Megan Young remains the Philippines’ first and only winner after taking the title in Bali, Indonesia, in 2013.
Following the competition, Young praised Simpson and described her Miss World journey as her “favorite to follow.”
The 2026 edition also marked Miss World’s 75th anniversary and the first time Vietnam hosted the international pageant.
For the Philippines, another Miss World crown will have to wait, but Simpson leaves the competition with a Top 12 finish and notable performances across three of the pageant’s major challenges.
