The Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Electrification Administration (NEA) have coordinated with electric cooperatives to deploy volunteer linemen to assist in restoring electricity in communities affected by the recent earthquake in Mindanao.

According to the DOE, volunteer crews from the Northern Mindanao Electric Cooperative Association (NORMECA), Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative (DASURECO), and Cotabato Electric Cooperative Inc.–PPALMA (COTELCO-PPALMA) were mobilized to help repair damaged power lines and electrical facilities in affected areas.

The deployment forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to speed up the restoration of electricity services and support communities recovering from the disaster.

The DOE said the initiative reflects the spirit of cooperation within the country’s energy sector, with electric cooperatives working together to ensure the safe and immediate restoration of power to affected households and businesses.

Through the dedication and expertise of the volunteer linemen, restoration activities are being accelerated, helping bring essential electricity services back to communities as quickly as possible.

The agency also expressed its gratitude to the volunteer linemen for their commitment and willingness to serve in areas affected by the earthquake, highlighting their crucial role in disaster response and recovery efforts.
