The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) recovered three motor vehicles linked to separate “failed-to-return” schemes during operations in Pangasinan and Camarines Sur.
In Lingayen, Pangasinan, a 38-year-old businessman from San Jacinto voluntarily surrendered two vehicles to the Pangasinan Provincial Highway Patrol Team after learning that the units had allegedly been illegally acquired and were previously reported missing.
The surrendered vehicles included a black Mitsubishi Montero and a Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Police said the turnover took place around 12:45 pm at Camp Gov. Antonio U. Sison in Barangay Libsong West.
Meanwhile, in Pamplona, Camarines Sur, anti-carnapping operatives and local police recovered a Mitsubishi L300 during an anti-carnapping and plate-spotting operation along a provincial road in Barangay Veneracion.
Authorities said the recovered vehicles are now under police custody pending further investigation and eventual turnover to their rightful owners upon presentation of proper documents.
PNP-HPG Director Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan said the operations form part of intensified efforts against fraudulent vehicle schemes, including failed-to-return and illegal pawn transactions.
“The PNP-HPG continues to strengthen intelligence-driven operations against individuals involved in fraudulent schemes involving motor vehicles,” Batangan said.
He also urged the public to exercise caution before purchasing vehicles or accepting them as collateral.
The Highway Patrol Group advised motorists and buyers to thoroughly verify ownership documents and transaction records to avoid becoming victims of vehicle-related fraud.
