Discaya Back in Custody After Medical Treatment

Private contractor Pacifico Discaya has returned to Senate custody after undergoing surgery for a shoulder condition at a hospital, according to the Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau (PRIB).

The PRIB said Discaya arrived back at the Senate detention facility at around 9:36 am Thursday after his doctors cleared him for discharge, saying he could continue recovering while under detention.

Discaya was taken to the hospital last Thursday after reportedly experiencing persistent pain and discomfort in his right shoulder.

Earlier, Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza said Discaya was expected to remain hospitalized for four to seven days following the procedure.

Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Rene Samonte previously disclosed that the surgery was approved by Senate President Vicente Sotto III upon the recommendation of Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson, who also chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, as well as the Senate’s Medical-Dental Bureau.

Discaya and his wife, Sarah, have been implicated in the Senate’s investigation into allegedly anomalous flood control projects.

He has remained under Senate detention since September last year after the Blue Ribbon Committee cited him in contempt for allegedly giving false statements during hearings.

Discaya is currently the only resource person linked to the flood control controversy who remains detained by the Senate.
