The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued separate show cause orders against the registered owners and drivers of a Ferrari Coupe and an Aston Martin Vantage Coupe over separate traffic violations that went viral on social media.
In a statement, the LTO said the Ferrari Coupe was flagged for using an unauthorized and modified license plate bearing the inscription “OPPA” instead of an official plate issued by the agency.
The driver and registered owner of the vehicle were ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at the agency’s Central Office on May 19 at 1 pm to explain why they should not be held liable for violations involving failure to attach a proper motor vehicle license plate and allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe drew attention after it was allegedly caught speeding at 200 kilometers per hour along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, endangering other motorists and pedestrians.
The owner and driver of the luxury sports car were directed to appear before the IID on May 20 at 10 am to answer allegations of reckless driving and allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The LTO said both vehicles have been placed under alarm status, while the licenses of the drivers involved have been preventively suspended for 90 days pending investigation.
The agency also ordered the immediate surrender of the suspended drivers’ licenses.
The LTO warned that failure of the respondents to attend the scheduled hearings would be deemed a waiver of their right to explain their side, allowing the agency to proceed with resolving the cases based on available evidence.
“Abiding by the law is not a measure of privilege or status in life. All motorists have a responsibility to be disciplined and responsible in using the road. We will not tolerate such kinds of irresponsible activities because it clearly puts the safety of the public at risk,” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said.
He added that the agency’s actions should serve as a warning to motorists who continue to disregard traffic laws and regulations.
The LTO also reminded the public to observe discipline and responsible driving at all times to ensure safety and order on the country’s roads.
