Army Recovers NPA Weapons Cache in Quezon Following Civilian Tip

Government troops recovered an arms cache believed to have been hidden by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in General Nakar, Quezon, following information provided by local residents, the Philippine Army said.

In a report released by the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, soldiers from the 80th Infantry (Steadfast) Battalion conducted focused military operations in Sitio Madaraki, Barangay Umiray on May 8 after receiving reports from concerned citizens regarding the location of hidden firearms in the area.

Authorities recovered a caliber-.30 rifle, a caliber-.45 pistol, and an improvised shotgun from the site.

Brig. Gen. Ernest John Jadloc, commander of the 202nd Infantry (Unifier) Brigade, said the operation demonstrated the crucial role of community cooperation in preventing armed groups from rebuilding their capabilities.

“These recovered weapons could have been used for violence, intimidation, or other unlawful activities. Their recovery is an important step in preventing armed groups from threatening communities,” Jadloc said.

He added that continued coordination between residents and security forces remains vital in stopping armed groups from regaining influence, particularly in remote areas.

Maj. Gen. Ramon Zagala, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, said the recovery also reflected growing public support for the military’s peace and security efforts.

“This accomplishment shows that our communities are increasingly rejecting the presence of armed groups and are choosing to work with authorities in protecting peace and security,” Zagala said.

The Army official also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with authorities in maintaining peace and order.

The 2nd Infantry Division said it remains committed to sustained security operations and community engagement initiatives aimed at promoting long-term peace and stability across Southern Tagalog.
